Weeding is the slow part of vinyl crafting. These habits make it faster and less frustrating.

Before you cut

  • Add a weeding box. A rectangle around the design gives you a clean edge to start peeling.
  • Avoid tiny details if they are not needed. Very thin lines and small inside spaces take the longest.
  • Do a test cut on new vinyl to confirm the setting.

While weeding

  • Use good, bright light. Some crafters use a light pad under the vinyl.
  • Start from a corner and peel at a low angle.
  • Remove large areas first, then small inside pieces.
  • Stick removed scraps to a piece of tape or a scrap bin so they don’t stick to the project.

Warm it up

Some types of vinyl weed more easily when slightly warm. Test on a scrap first.

Tools

A basic kit with a hook, tweezers and a spatula covers most jobs.

TREVOR: add a short video or photo series of your weeding process.
